Project Reflection - Cambridge Portfolio Project

The final part of this project has come. I am full of excitement about this, as I really have put a lot of effort, time, and also stress into this project. I honestly sub estimated what it took to build a production, and that is doing just a 2 minute opening, I could not imagine how would a whole film be honestly.

The production is exhausting, but the worst part by far is setting up the schedules to record. I feel filming is the worst, as you depend on a lot of more people than yourself to do the work, while editing you can arrange your times as you wish, you don't depend on anyone, and if you really want to finish it in one day, there is nothing stopping you from it.

Besides that, I think this whole production went really good. It was a great experience but also a wonderful way I could show my ideas with no one setting boundaries on what my ideas should be or how do I have to make my own project.

My favorite part was the CCR's, where I got to be with a friend doing overall a good plan that I like while also contributing to this production.

I would like to keep doing this type of productions on my own even after this class. I learned a lot of things in this road and I feel it can really help me grow my skills more and my ability to deal with complications.

My next blog will be uploading the finished final project, and I hope you all love it and enjoy it as I do.

CCR Post-Production - Cambridge Portfolio Project

For the almost last section of this project, the editing part of the CCR.

For the editing, I just followed steps on normal youtube videos, where I had to do straight normal cuts between clips to get the most out of the content, as sometimes me or my friend Lara got stuck in some words, as english is not our first language and the nerves played a huge role in how we spoke and also how fluid we did.

At first, and as I said in the video, I intended to edit on premiere pro. My computer turned it's back on me and run out of storage, so I had to edit the 2 CCR's on Imovie, on my phone.

This made my task way more difficult, but at the same time, it almost didn't. The CCR's are a short portion that need not much editing compared to the opening, where light and sound play the major role. Here, it is more about creativity, and the bigger picture, instead of the mini more detailed aspects.

I can't add much more, but you will all se the final product in the 2 following blogs.

CCR Production - Cambridge Portfolio Project

For the first format of the CCR, I did the brownie video, where both the brownie, as the questions turned out really good, and I'm very happy with the result.

In this link you will find one of the clips of the first format. I really liked this idea and enjoyed the whole process a lot. The filming with a friend and whole idea made it really easy to just follow through it and really get into the process. It took around 30 minutes to record without taking into account the oven process, and it went really good.

For my second format, I did the what do you do for a living part. It was not as long as the other format, but still does the work but most importantly I could answer the questions and I think in a funny way.

I think I am running a bit behind, but I haven't edited the CCR's yet, as I still have a full week to work on them, but this one was much easier to record, and with certainly less reward compared to the other one.  I filmed both on the same day, and as they didn't need as much production I could finish them relatively quick, and will also be very easy to edit.

CCR #3 - Cambridge Portfolio Project

The third question to answer is the following:

  • How did your production skills develop throughout this project?

I want to answer very informally. Yes, I know I am doing everything more relaxed rather than stiff and just reading out loud. But, I honestly think is the way I like the most to watch and express content. People nowadays value way more what is authentic and natural rather than very produced productions, so showing that side of me while answering the questions I think is the best that I can do.

I would answer that my skills have developed massively throughout this project. I have learned more here than probably in the whole year, as I have experienced what is really like to produce the whole set to record, lighting, editing, sounds, everything required to get a good result and the time it actually takes, specially that. It took much longer than what I expected, and I think I really grew with my skills and ways to do things in order to be successful in my productions.

CCR #4 - Cambridge Portfolio Project

The fourth and final question is the following:

  • How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?
My whole hardware and software sources are my phone and computer, which are all the devices I used for the developing of this production, footage and editing. For online, I used youtube and social media to distribute my project and adobe premiere for the whole editing part.

This ccr format will be much shorter than the first one, but I still expect it to still work as effective as other ones with much more screen time.

CCR #2 - Cambridge Portfolio Project

The second question in the CCR to answer is:

  • How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?

My product will engage the audience by feeling anger and disgust towards the antagonist, the stranger, and compassion in some way by wanting desperately to help de kid to beat this guy and his twisted desires.

It would be distributed through You Tube and all social media, because, I am not a major distributor and not even close to that. Realistically, the only way my project could be seen is through free sites and not paying for a drastic cinema whatsoever because I don't count with the enough budget nor impact to afford that.

With the brownie video, I will respond to this question and question #1, then I will use the other format for the other 2 to make an even distribution of content. My way is also to blend in the questions with natural dialogue, not just being a whole scripted sequence where I respond things like a robot or just reading out loud.

Engaging the people watching is my main goal, which is the main goal any type of production has to have, because if not you are just boring and no one will want to watch the stuff. I hope to have the whole CCR ready throughout the weekend so I can just focus on final details on the last week.
